What It Takes To Succeed
Kelly McCausey
I know hundreds of women who know what they need to do to be successful in business. If you sit them down and ask them, they could tell you the necessary steps to walk through to get where you want to go.
Yes, I know hundreds of women like that – sadly, I only know a few dozen who actually do what they know to do. Isn’t that crazy?
When I first looked to start my own business, I hunted for information. I needed to know what to do to create a website. I needed to know how to promote my website to others. There was so much I needed to know I often felt overwhelmed. I decided to slow down and do what I knew how to do before I tried to learn anything else.
I adopted a pattern of learning something new, applying that knowledge to my business and taking some time to examine how it all works.
Some business strategies work in different ways with different business models and markets, so it’s important to measure results. I didn’t reach out to learn something else until I felt I had a firm grip on everything else I already knew.
That, it turns out, is probably why I’ve managed to be as successful as I have been. Many others got stuck in the learning phase and have never passed go in a real way. It’s easy to get addicted to new information. There’s always so much of it!
Want to know what it takes to succeed in business? It takes action — plain and simple!
You certainly need to learn what actions to take before you take them. Just don’t get caught up in too much learning and not enough doing. The sooner you take action on something you’ve learned the better.
When you act, you help cement what you’ve learned. Then, taking time to really see the impact — or lack of impact — that it has on your business is crucial!
If you learn, learn, learn and then jump in and put everything into action at once, you won’t really know what works and what doesn’t.
Taking early action is important — but so is taking consistent action.
Most of us who have chosen an Internet-based business will be in the position of working hard for quite a while before we see good results. It takes time for our efforts to have an impact in the search engines, and it takes even more time to get established as a trustworthy presence with the people who can help us reach more of our desired target market.
Many business owners get tired of doing what needs to be done week after week without significant results and — what’s worse — may give up just short of the breakthrough moment.
Writer and Speaker Alyssa Avant of Beauty By Design Online says, “You have got to want it so bad that you just won’t quit.”
Alyssa knows what she’s talking about. She got started blogging and writing digital products a couple of years ago and is just now really starting to see the good fruit from her efforts. Along the way, she has had to hire her writing skills out to others to make ends meet. As tough as it has been, she has built up momentum that can carry her far in the future.
What if Alyssa had gotten lost in the learning process instead of actually making blog posts, creating her digital products and reaching out to make valuable relationships? She wouldn’t be where she is today — that’s for sure.
The next time you wonder if you’re missing some valuable piece of information, ask yourself first if you’re doing all that you already know to do. You may have to admit that you’re not. Do what you can now and then tackle your next learning opportunity.

It's so funny that all we need to do is get the work done! I have been guilty of that too sometimes, great article!

You're definitely right about that. I think that learning and not acting is a way of procrastinating for some. Well, I guess I should just say for me.
Am I doing all that I already know? Nope. Guess I should get back to work.
Great article... thanks.
