10 Ways to Make Yourself Unfireable

Tania Khadder | Excelle

9. Keep Time Off to a Minimum

If you’ve got strep throat, stay home. Is your sister getting married? Go ahead and take a few days off (the wrath of Bridezilla = scarier than being fired).

It’s not that you shouldn’t take time off. It’s just that you should try and be a little more particular about your reasons, especially if your company is experiencing cutbacks. Don’t call in sick for a hangover, or plan any long, extravagant vacations (at least until the waters settle).

A week-long trip to the Bahamas sounds fun, but coming back to no job will be anything but.

Great career advice. Sounds like the thought is to help the company survive and our jobs will survive. I also like this post http://positivelymagazine.com/2009/09/a-new-rule-of-…ake-initiative/

I do appreciate all the concern and advice of the enviroment in giving these tips on how to be unfireable, but I have one comment to make when it's for you no one I mean no one can take it away! If its written then it shall come to pass (In God Spoken Terms)

i AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS WHICH MAKES MY BEING LET GO A JOKE FOR WHO THEY GAVE IT TO, MY POSITION. THIS PERSON PUT FAMILY FIRST, MADE IT POSSIBLE TO GET AWAY WITH THREATING A HIGHER POSITION PERSON, AND ALWAYS RECEIVED MORE RAISES THAN ANYONE ELSE. SHE WAS SAME AGE AS SUPERVISORS, WHICH MEANS THEY WERE FRIENDS. SHE PASSED A RUMOR AROUND THAT THEY WERE OBTAINING DRUGS TO LOSE WEIGHT.. EVERYONE WAS SO SHOCKED I WAS LET GO.. AS WAS I. THAT PLACE WAS A JOKE..

Nice article. The people I work with do almost all of them, except keeping positive. That's the hardest one to do in our climate of cut-backs and uncertainty.
