Thanks to widespread downsizing, workloads are piling up. Unfortunately, extra hours in the day are not.
Maximizing your time at work can mean the difference between leaving at a reasonable hour (i.e. holding onto your sanity) and staying late unnecessarily. You’ve got a life outside work. Don’t you want to live it?
There are countless ways you waste time on the job.
Sometimes, it’s unavoidable. Other times, it can be overcome with a minor shift in your approach. Either way, the first step to addressing time wasters is to identify them.
Here are the 10 most common time sucks and some tips on how to defeat them.

I find this situation very common in the work place however employees tend to complain and vent for various reasons. It is better to just be a listening to just the people who are already connected to what you do in terms of tasks that work when we are assigned to team up. There is always something to do even if it's just organizing an office space or files that need to be addressed where work and processing is still pending. In any case if you do have dead lines to meet, stick with your agenda and politely excuse yourself from the group.

I had no idea people consider instant messaging a waste of time. If I used an instant message instead of going to a coworker's desk and standing there like a doof until acknowledged, to get an alternate location to find product in a warehouse, I might have been a more productive worker.

That's absurd. So many studies show that if we take a 10 minute break every hour, we are so much more productive. I hate this American mentality of living to work rather than working to live. We would be so much more productive while working if we worked less.

this isn't an article...it's a good way for the company to make big bucks by having advertising posted on every page. It's the article that is the fluff.

Disorganized workspace often means disorganized mind. If you can't find it, you may as well not have it. Talk with a certified professional organizer who can help you understand the psychology behind why your spaces is a mess and give you coaching on how to make it neat and keep it that way. Barbara Hemphill is the Paper Tiger Tamer and has trained many consultants on how to use the Paper Tiger Software to strategize, organize and prioritize

Interesting tips for saving time, I don't have much of a problem with any of them. I have been working from my home for over 40 years as a dressmaker and product designer and managing time has become just one of those things I do easily. I took a short vacation (1 year) and "went to work" punching the clock---the main thing I found frustrating was how workers worked so hard at avoiding their work. So I guess your time waster list is great for those who really want to work better at their working.
