Name: Anjuli Sherin
Company, Role: <a href= “http://www.heartheldhealing.com”>Heart Held Healing, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, Clinical Hypno Therapist, Reiki Master
Executive Assistant: Life Empowerment Action Program (LEAP)
Location: Bay Area, California
1. Now that we know your job title, what more can you tell us about your job?
My passion is to awaken people to the potential dormant inside them and facilitate the process by which their deepest dreams turn into vibrant, juicy, fulfilling reality. I really believe that each of us has an innate core of joy, wisdom, and happiness; and that being our best selves while living our very best lives is the truest gift of love we can give ourselves and our relationships. I feel privileged each and every day working with people who want to ‘be the change they wish to see in the world.’
2. How did your interest in the healing arts field come about?
I have always felt a tremendous pull towards service and deeply connecting with other people. My initial desire was to do international developmental work with women and children, however, i was unsure of what area to focus on. Quite a few years ago, the turmoil and angst in my personal life led me to the most healing and life changing experience…I entered a transformational workshop series called LEAP (Life Empowerment Action Program) that broke open my heart and widened my sense of self and what life had to offer in terms of joy, passion ,and depth of connection. I knew in doing the program that i wanted to bring its message of healing, awakening, and joyful loving and living to communities worldwide. I now work with that program as an Executive Assistant, and am continuing my training and work in healing and transformational processes. LEAP’s mission is to awaken each person to the fullest and freest expression of who they are, and i feel more than blessed to be a part of the fulfillment of that dream.
3. When/how did you decide you wanted to start your own company?
As i mentioned before, LEAP was the first impetus for me to move towards working in the healing arts. After finishing graduate school, and having worked for many years in community agency jobs, that provided fulfilling work at the cost of mind numbing beauracracy, paperwork, and low pay, I knew that i needed a change. I love entreprenurship – and especially the motivation, creativity, and moxie of a woman entrepreneur. I liked the idea of calling my own shots – having my own schedule, and even more doing the work I loved and honoring what my skills were worth. It was a combination of all these things that pushed me to take that first step towards creating my own business.
4. What was the one thing you wish you knew before you started?
To be honest, although i have been working in the healing arts for over ten years, as an entreprenur I am very much still starting. That being said, what has helped me in these early stages is knowing other women have been here before and survived and went on to thrive! Networking, Networking, Networking. Giving myself the time i need to get started and stay in that stage for a while. Lots of mentor-ship, guidance, and support….and, staying open to new suggestions and feedback. In fact, I would love any feedback from the readers and members of Excelle on starting your own private practice!
5. How’s the landscape for professional women looking, in your opinion?
I think it looks fabulous. At every networking meeting i go to, that is what i hear, and also see, feel, sense, and experience with each woman i meet. I think the spirit and the openness to women creating and running their own businesses, in a successful and financially viable manner, is booming right now. Women have the education, the skills, the funding and the market to sell what they want – and they have a much larger support network of women who have gone before to help back them up. What i love hearing about is how women are the major buyers in this economy. We have traditionally controlled a lot of where the household funds go, and I thoroughly support professional supporting each other through buying from and promoting each other’s business.
6. Any advice/resources for women seeking to be entrepreneurs out there?
I think the best advice i can relate to is about relationships. The art of business, the art of networking, is essentially the art of great relationships. Business is not so much about making a sale, or ‘getting’ someone to buy what you have…its about really tuning into our sense of self, our love for what we do, our passion about life and about sharing what we care about with others…and then translating that into appreciation, caring, gratitude towards all those we come into contact with. It is the way we make another feel rather than what we say that will make a lasting impression. It is those encounters that not only re ignite us in our work, they also provide us with fulfilling, engaging encounters with others, and insure that our work is seen, heard, and provided to those who are most in alignment with it.
7. What’s next on your plate?
One of the things i love to do is to share the teachings i have been graced with, through speaking engagements, workshops, writing, and teaching opportunities. I would love to have these activities translate into fund-raising to bring women’s empowerment and transformation workshops to women in developing countries…and bring the cutting edge LEAP training to clinicians in third world countries who could touch so many lives through this work. Creating and directing a non-profit that is dedicated to these goals is my next big dream.
