I am 40 years old and considering going back to school to become a Medical Assistant or a Nurse. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 15 years. I have to go back to work because, like many, my husbands business closed and now he is making $30,000.00 a year less. That killed our home budget. I want a career not just a job. I am looking for some help and or advice on schools, finanial aid, life wisdom, etc.

In my community college literature class yesterday we were discussing gender inequality and someone mentioned that the average male high school graduate makes about the same as the average female college graduate.

I have just found out that my company is closing their doors. I have no choice to move on to a new chapter in my life. I am going back to school so that I can't stop winging it through life. I don't have alot of time to play with so I am thinking about getting my certificate in either Business Management, HR, or something in the Medical Field like a Medical Transcription or Medical Assistant. (I kind of already do components of HR duties-background checks, employment verifications, etc...) But help...which road do I pick? Any advice..?

I'M GOING TO SCHOOL TO GET A CARRIER, NOT JUIST HAVING "A JOB". DON'T GET ME WRONG, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CRAPPY JOB, I'VE HAD PLENY, BUT I FEEL THAT I COULD DO BETTER WITH MY LIFE AND TIME ON THIS EARTH THAN JUST GOING DAY TO DAY. PLUS I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO HELP WITH THE COMMUNITY AND GIVE BACK TO THE TRIBE BY HELPING WITH OUR CULTURE AND TEACHING THE YOUNG PEOPLE.

I came back to school to obtain my BA in Visual Communication and I appreciate school more today than I did when I started fresh out of HS.
