Finding Your Little Piece of Heaven
What will you do to bring a piece of heaven into someone else's world?

When my husband and I welcomed our second child into the world, our family, and our hearts, he would just stare wondrously down at her as if unable to speak. She mesmerized him completely. After some time of simply, and quietly being with her, he whispered over to me, “She’s our little piece of heaven.”
I have loved that expression because it aptly captures the wonder and beauty of life. Long exacting days of work can sometimes leave me feeling overcome with fatigue and weary physically and emotionally. That sense of life’s wonder and beauty escapes me. At times like this, it’s the act of walking through the door to my home and encountering my baby girl’s welcome—an exuberant embrace and heartfelt “mommy!” that’s so characteristic of a young toddler-age child’s greeting that reminds me that I’m her “piece of heaven.”
You and I need something in our life that can remind us of our life’s significance. Our life’s value transcends our personal needs. We aren’t here just for ourselves. We have unique talents, abilities, views and perspectives that are deeply needed by others.
Think about it. What you do in your career matters. Where you live and your place in your community both matter. If you allow it or tap into it, your gifts and abilities can change someone’s world from the mundane to the majestic. You can bring a “piece of heaven” to someone else’s life.
Consider your friends and other people you know or are acquainted with. Is anyone broken-hearted? How can you bring encouragement? How about the lonely? Older people who have lost friends and many of their physical abilities long for companionship and love.
Then, there are those who lack social support and quality friendship. You and I are surrounded by people who hunger for “a piece of heaven.” Paradoxically, the only way we can experience it for ourselves and help to bring it to the lives of others is to forget about ourselves or step out of ourselves.
Are you up for the challenge? There is something you can do. It may be a word or an action. What will you do to bring a piece of heaven into someone else’s world?
