10 Simple Things Women Want

Besides the meaning of life and the ingredients of hot dogs, many a man has questioned “what exactly do women want?” We’re not playing coy here, we know we’re complex creatures. And, true, we operate on a different wavelength than men.

The best example of our gender difference comes from an article we read last year about why men cheat. The most compelling testimony was from a transgender man who’d undergone hormone therapy during his transition. Thanks to testosterone, the man noticed less of an emotional attachment to sex and more of a physical urge to engage, regardless of consequences. Fascinating.

So, we’re different. But, women aren’t exactly the great mystery that men often make us out to be. The proof? We polled the YourTango staff and compiled a list of 10 simple things women want. Note: you won’t find diamond rings or other fancy things anywhere on this list. While many women really do want luxury goods from men, when you break it down they are just physical representations of some of the points on this list. We promise.

Respect

Show us through your actions that you respect our opinions, careers, interests, friends, bodies and minds. You don’t have to agree with all that we say or do, but try to honor our opinions as valuable contributions. Follow the golden rule and treat us as you would like to be treated: Be honest, fair, kind, and considerate.

Sex

Yes, we love sex. But, remember that there are four bases to cover in the bedroom, not just one. Try stopping at each base instead of being so focused on the home run—believe us, we’ll thank you for it! Likewise, remember small physical touches like massages. One can never, ever, have too many shoulder rubs. And scratching our heads is pretty great, too.

I've always joked with my boyfriend and his friends that I am the "anti-woman." It seems there are more "anti-women" than I realized. These are indeed my own top ten wants.

Women mostly care about being safe, secure, and doing what we want to do- freedom.
We do not care about sex or romance, its over-rated! We want someone to care about us and someone to care about. We like to have fun and make sure we are taken care of financially and emotionally. Hugs and kisses are great too! A happy wife is a happy life! No STRESS!!

I hate it when my husband discounts my knowledge about "manly" stuff. Namely home repair. Yes, I can remove carpet and install my own tile. Yes, I can build a fence and use power tools. Don't let my knowledge of power tools make you feel like less of a man! Just because I am a girly girl doesn't mean I am stupid.

peanut: theres this stuff called Dog Ayre u can get it at any pet supple store. after ur husband comes back in from havin a smoke spray it a couple times on him and his clothes to freshen him up. its intended for dogs but is safe for humans and our clothing. also eclipse gum works really well for breath. and so whitening toothpaste from Aquafresh is good for brightening teeth color. hope this helps :)

I'm just a newlywed but my husband does these things and i love him for it.he respects me,sex is good,he makes me laugh,compliments me,and supports me on the things i do,he gives me all the time in the world and makes me feel like i'm number one in his life.Gotta love him!

I, too, am blessed to have a man in my life who treats me this way. It takes work though, on both sides. It is interesting to note how many of these same things - respect, sex, engagement, challenge, etc -- are the things men want from their mate too.

My husband is pretty good about a lot of stuff. Except for the communication. He never asks about the book I'm reading, or the afghan I'm making. He seems to get irritated when I ask him "too many" questions. In my insecurity, I sometimes feel he doesn't want to hear me talk, but I realize it's not true.
