Whether you’re starting a new relationship or already married, there are some things that don’t change, like the need to feel sexy, appreciated and needed.

And it’s not just women who want these things—men do too!

Below are seven things you can say to a man, at any stage of your love life, that will leave him glowing.

1. “You look great!”

Men have insecurities, just like women. And whether he shows it or not, sometimes he’s wondering if his shirt looks better tucked in or out, or if his belly is sticking out a little too far over his belt. This is an especially good compliment if he’s been going to the gym—why do you think he’s doing all that working out?

I'm surprised to NOT see a comment in this list pertaining to how INTELLIGENT a woman thinks her man is! Yes, we like men to be strong (unscrew this lid for me), attractive (to us and others) and sexually/romatically adept, but don't men also enjoy hearing how SMART we think they are? I absolutely love it when my husband "knows stuff about stuff", whether it be random sports trivia or the lyrics from a song I loved 22 years ago... and when I tell him this, he gets all gushy about it. Men are SUPPOSED to be smart out in the big, bad business world, but I think they'd also appreciate hearing it from their women. Guys opinions on this?

That is all true. From the ex. wife's point, ladies we need to pump our men's ego!

Men love to hear how handsome they look. I always tell my husband what a great lover he is and how much I appreciate him. They need to hear this. Don't forget to tell him every day how much you love him.

Like jhayward, I agree with most of the article, but again - I don't want to be misled. Honest appreciation and compliments go a long way toward making your partner feel loved, needed and wanted. Both men and women want to hear nice things about themselves - but don't overdo it - it will sound insincere, and your partner will wonder why you are blowing smoke up their rear end...

While I agree with most of the things this article says, I'm not sure I want my boyfriend/husband, etc to tell me I look skinny in my jeans when I actually look fat...I would rather just try on another pair of pants. Maybe, instead, one could say, "You're thinning a little, but I think it looks sexy..." which you probably do if you're dating/married, whatever to the guy!

I agree with this article, men need to appreciated. Also women need this from men as well.

I think these could apply to women too! Who doesn't want to be told they are hot and needed?!

Men also need to feel appreciated. I make a point to notice out loud when my husband has been working hard, and prop him up with a few words of encouragement if needed. I also like to tell him how much I love our life together. I'm pretty sure it makes him smile from the inside out.
