Both New Zealand and Australia (No. 17) continue to perform well in the gender gap rankings. The rank on political empowerment for New Zealand, where Prime Minister Helen Clark (pictured) is the second woman to be the country’s head of government, increased by two places to ninth position, while its rank on economic participation rose by six places to eighth in 2007. Australia ranks well on all four categories and, over the past year, further improved its scores on economic participation, driven by advances in labor force participation and wage gap data.

I wish I could say I'm surprised the U.S. ranks rather low given the fact that we're the richest nation in the world, and the one with the most resources that should allow the gender gap to evaporate...

No surprise that the Scandanavian countries are the leaders here; objectively speaking, their countries have been the most gender-equal for decades now.
