The Philippines and Sri Lanka (15) are the only Asian countries in the top 20. The Philippines is once again the only country in Asia to have closed the gender gap on both education and health and is one of only six in the world to have done so. The country, where Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (pictured) is its second woman President, improved its scores on political empowerment and on economic indicators such as estimated income, labor force participation, and income equality for similar work.
Sri Lanka, which has been led by a female head of state for 21 of the past 50 years, showed improvement in labor-force participation rates as well as wage equality for similar work.

I wish I could say I'm surprised the U.S. ranks rather low given the fact that we're the richest nation in the world, and the one with the most resources that should allow the gender gap to evaporate...

No surprise that the Scandanavian countries are the leaders here; objectively speaking, their countries have been the most gender-equal for decades now.
