Description:

Based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, "Everything is Illuminated" tells the story of a young man's quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazi invasion. What starts out as a journey to piece together one family's story under the most absurd circumstances turns into a surprisingly meaningful journey with a powerful series of revelations -- the importance of remembrance, the perilous nature of secrets, the legacy of the Holocaust, the meaning of friendship and, most importantly, love. "Everything is Illuminated" is adapted for the screen and directed by Liev Schreiber and stars Elijah Wood, Eugene Hutz, and Boris Leskin.

An interesting and mysterious story that is touching, emotional, beautifully directed, has powerful acting, and cinematography to die for. Highly recommend.

When I first saw this movie it caught my attention. I thought that Elijah Woods character was a bit strange, but I liked it. It made me laugh and made me sad. I think it was a great movie and I'm glad I caught it.

Being half Russian and growing up with heavily Russian grandparents, I think it captured the spirit of "true" Russia by accurately portraying the Russian way of life, morals, and personalities. Though a bit odd at times, it effectively depicts a broad range of emotions in a unique and touching light. As with every great movie, it makes you stop and think about life, and that's what made this film so enjoyable to me.
