Christmas is to me is when family is all together and everyone is getting along...(lol... most of the time..) and laughter.  Hot chocolate, christmas music and the kids running to their presents and whatching them tackle the boxes and the excitement on their faces when santa remembers to bring them what they asked for.   Christmas is to me family ............seeing everyone together.....

Although family is important at Christmas, it is, for me, primarily about Jesus' birth and preparing my heart for that - the carols and Christmas music, lights, Advent readings, church services,

all family together, christmas carols, the tree and the lights, the fun and excitment waiting for presents, the joy of my friends and my relatives opening their gifts, all those crazy days to get everything settled: food, presents, sweets

... Busy.  I am busy baking treats. I am busy shopping. I am busy cleaning my house. I am busy attending this party and that. I am busy driving all around town.

I am busy from early November through to the begining of the year. But I wouldn't change any of it. I love my self imposed busyness- because I am usually doing it in preparation to spend time with family and friends.

To me, Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus and family.  I'm always busy cooking, cooking and more cooking.  I enjoy the decorations and the lights.  It is a time of reflection.  It about my grand daughter smiling and laughing.  It's about family fun.  And memories.

Christmas means celebrating the spritual and family rituals. No matter what happens, we are together as a family.

Christmas has always been both a spiritual time and a family/friends time for me.

We celebrate this as the time of remembrance of the birth of Jesus ( yes I know we do not have the exact date), but it is also a time of celebration of family, friends and tradition.

This year because of the economic conditions alot of family members are exeperencing our family has decided to  make our gifts to each other.  We are employing (since some of us are unempoyed) are God given talents .

For me it has had the added incentive of getting me moving again.  All through my career I would find fabric, beads, scrap book papers, I took pictures and gathered craft supplies for when  I "would have time" .  You know the old addage "when you have time you don't  the money for supplies, when you have money for the supplies you don't have time to make the projects".  Not working seems to have solved at least one of these issues.

Also for me the wrapping of the gift has become a creative process.  I love taking papaer mache boxes (you can find at any craft store) and coveriing them with wall paper, fabric, or paint and stencils then making the ribbon and bow/toppper really special.  I think it's fun to make the package as beautiful as what you intend to put in it.

Cooking  is very special the whole family gets in the kitchen. I'll be in there with my nieces and sister-in-laws, my brothers are usually out on the grill  with the meat. We have a great time. Our parents and grandparents have all passed on but we enjoy remembering them and the story telling makes it fell like their still with us.

Remeber it's only 114 days til Christmas!
