Posted 9 months ago This article ("Are Stay-at-home Mom's Regretting...") got me thinking about what I would do, if I had the option to be a stay-at-home mom, to keep my resume current - just in case. I've already been looking for a way to volunteer in my community, but it's been hard to find something that doesn't take too much time away from me and the family and is also on the weekend - it's bad enough that I have to work full-time during the week. Anyway, there are so many great volunteer oppurtunities that would look good on your resume, so that if a stay-at-home mom needed to go back to work full or part-time, she'd have current experiences. For example, there are volunteer opportunities such as "Program Coordinator" on http://www.volunteermatch.org. Just type in your city, state, and/or zip code and a keyword - something that you may enjoy doing and/or that would look good on your resume. All this said, there are obviously priceless blessings you'd be giving and receiving by being a volunteer within your community.

| Posted 9 months ago I personally think that volunteering - or trading your time for exposure, mentoring, learning new skills is a SMART thing to do right now. See most people are getting into scared scarcity mode - which paralyzes them. Being out there is the smartest way to get a job offer these days (or more customer/clients if you are an entrepreneur!) | Posted 9 months ago Volunteering as a SAHM is crucial for resume building and for social interaction. Even if you cannot volunteer in your field, then find something to do which will provide you with positive references and transferrable skills. You will expand your social network as well, which will help keep you happy and healthy. "People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering." ~St. Augustine |
