We all know it is important to eat our vegetables, but do you truly know why? Vegetables contain important enzymes that act as catalysts for many functions in the body. However, did you KNOW that  microwaving, boiling and baking your veggies destroys these enzymes? So does bottling, canning and freezing.

I know it's easy to pick up the phone and say "Hey, one large pizza please and a bottle of soda"... and that's ok, if it's not on a continual basis. Did you know that there are foods that are difficult to fully digest and eliminate? Did you know that some foods will remain in the colon and allow for a build up of material? When food builds up, it can create havoc on the immune system, not to mention digestion. Problems such as disbiosis and candidiasis, high blood pressure and parasites can make their way into your world if not kept in check.

So... what to eat? How to be healthy?

  •         At least 3 - 5 servings of vegetables daily (unless doctor prescribes not to, eat as many raw vegetables as you wish

  •        At least 1-2 servings of fresh fruit (without sugar added)

  •        At least 8 pure glasses of water daily, adding herbal teas is fine (no soda - gradually eliminate coffee and add green tea)

  •        Beans, Tofu, Rice (not white), Whole Grain breads and products) - Ezekiel is excellent and is best kept frozen to last

  •        Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Flax Oil

  •        Hard boiled eggs,  Fish, Almond in place of Peanut Butter, Rice Milk or Almond Milk in place of regular cows milk

  •        Turkey without hormones, Chicken and Beef (all without additives and preservatives and freeze what you can't use)

  •        A glass of carrot juice adds more calcium to your bones than regular milk!  AND its in a form that we can utilize (unlike cow)

  •        Dark Green Leafy veges

  •        Variety of vegetables so you can reap full benefit of nutrients

  •        Supplements that are easily digested: take a vitamin out of your cabinet and put it in a small glass of vinegar, see if it dissolves in less than twenty minutes.. if not, change vitamins!

  •        Eliminate junk foods - make more stews with many vegetables instead of fast foods. you can easily take them out of the freezer and cook in a pot

  •        Throw out your microwave - it is dangerous, the radiation that pours out of it

  •         Cellphone too - limit use to less than ten minutes a day (my doctor friends say ten minutes a MONTH is too much)

  •        Exercise at least a half hour three times a week and gradually work up to every day - come on, start with stretches, have a schedule and stick to it!! Do it in the morning. Don't have time? GET UP EARILIER, that's what I do.

I shared these tidbits off the top of my head, so hopefully it can help someone today -

Lastly, express yourself in any way possible (legally possible, that is)... Write, dance, sing, inquire, ask questions, share photos, stories, drawings... make jewelry...whatever you feel creative at and wish you had time to do, CREATE THAT SPECIAL TIME

Now it's your turn... share with us today..on the topic of health and what YOU eat =) and how YOU stay healthy.... Help someone today who may drop by this post and see what you've said

My appetite is generally small, but I learned many years ago that eating breakfast is too important to skip.  Waking up in the morning, not hungry at all has been my challenge.  So I pick things that are easy to eat - or - sometimes I drink my breakfast.  My two favorites are -

3-4 tablesoons rice, with a little green tea and miso; or - a smoothie - fresh fruit, alittle ice, milk.

Also - since my focus isn't really on food - I've taught myself to eat little bits throughout the day -- small amounts - often - works best for me.

This is a great topic. What I teach my son, in easy  to remember terms, is that if you read the ingredients and can not pronounce them, don't eat them. Never drink soda (which means you limit it greatly) and remember your stomach is the size of your fist...dont stretch it!!!

Then I bake him a batch of  vegan chocolate chip cookies. This may seem extreme, I know, but if you leave things strict you have more room to have fun because no one can follow this all the time. Especially for children who run right for Mcdonalds when no one is looking!

But for the 6 months I have been vegan, I have felt so great...and at 41, that is an accomplishment!

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is so very, very sad. Your suggestions are good ones! I'm all about eating whole, nourishing foods. The changes I've made in my diet (less sugar, more fresh vegetables, less caffeine, more whole grains, etc.) have allowed me freedom from crippling low blood sugar issues, digestive trouble and anxiety attacks. Yoga has also played a hugely important role!

What a great topic, I'd love to talk more about it with any of you!

And I recently went through a lactose attack so now am off cheese unless I take some lactaid with it. I love cheese! But it is amazing the bloating that disappears. I already had been using soy milk now trying almond too which isn't bad. Humans are really not meant to drink cow/sheep/goat milk.
