Those damn hot flashes...

Posted 6 months ago Those damn hot flashes are driving me crazy! I woke up in the recovery room after my hysterectomy and had my first hot flash. It was the worst thing. I still get a warm feeling and constantly have sweat dripping down my back. I'm always hot even in the dead of winter. I can't wear sweaters or long sleeved shirts. |

Posted 6 months ago Don't you just love it, and I say that sarcastically. Nothing more fun than waking up in the middle of night in a pool of water with your head feeling like it is on fire. My husband swears I am trying to freeze him out of the bedroom with our thermostat set way below where it should be (hope the Green Police don't come to take me away in handcuffs) and the ceiling fan spinning so fast, it could possibly fly off the ceiling out the window. Then when I still can't get cool, I quickly get out of bed...and this is not a pretty picture...begin undressing as quickly as possible and then go out to the steps of the garage and sit my bare ass on the cool concrete steps. After 5 minutes or so, it's over and back I go, putting on my nightgown and crawling back into bed. Sorry about the picture I just painted but hey, that's the way it is!

Posted 6 months ago I can picture it...hell I'm there. I'm the one in the middle of winter in shorts and a tank top. My husband is from Venezuela so you know he likes it hot. OMG!! One night we're gonna go to bed and he's gonna wake up to find a huge puddle with a tank top and shorts floating in it! I was told if you feel a flash coming on put you hands in cold water. Let me know if it works...LOL

Posted 6 months ago All it took was a few hot flashes for me and I couldn't take it. You guys are better than me as far as tolerating them. After about five, I had my doctor put me on an Estrogen patch and no more hot flashes!

Posted 6 months ago I encourage taking estrogen at least for the first year and allow your body to get adjusted. I did it 9 years ago and after a year I just stop taking them. I never get hot flashes, I occassionally get nite sweats every 6 mths for one night. Pay attention to your diet and exercise could also help. I forgot what it was like to have a period, I got my life back. The surgery was the best decisions I have made in my life; I am 52 years young and going on 42 in the way I feel. I am enjoying my life immensely. I got married in Sept and after 3 yrs of an amazing love affair, I am still on my honeymoon. lol.

Posted 4 months ago Just let the women on hear know. I'm a man! I have had hot flashes as well! For about 2 to 3 years now. 2 years ago I had my hormones checked and found the testosterone levels feel below normal! I had hot flashes so bad that I felt sick and had a hard time cooling off! With hormone replacement the hot flashes are better, but there are times when have mild hot flashes. I even some times get an cold flash as well. My endocrinologist tells me once your hormones are out of normal range and you get them back on track, there is no guarantee that the hot flashes or cold flashes will go completely away! I.m also taking 'Black Cohosh' for hot flashes as well!

Posted 4 months ago I went through menopause at the age of 40. I took estrogen for about six weeks, but came off of it after hearing bad reports. I try to include soy in my diet, and found homeopathic alternatives to help. After 12 years, I have the flashes occasionally now. Nothing that I can't tolerate. I prefer to call them "energy surges." fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalms139:14
