As you’ve read, we are fully integrating Excelle with Monster.com. What changes can you expect? Check out the FAQ below, and feel free to ask anything you don’t see on the list. We want to make this as easy for you as possible, because this is really an exciting change that will open up whole new worlds of career resources for you.

What will the new site look like?

Excelle will be making a few changes in a two-step process.

FIRST STEP: A new name! We are now Excelle.

SECOND STEP: We’ll be adding few additional resources by September 19th to help you navigate your career path! Check it out here.

Will the website address change?

Yes, the URL will become excelle.monster.com but you don’t have to worry about getting lost when the change happens: accessing WomenCo will take you straight to excelle.monster.com. Changing your browser bookmark for Excelle is a great idea, too!

Help! I save my password in my browser and don’t remember what it is…

No problem!

Because of Excelle’s two steps of changes, each step will unfortunately cause you to lose any saved log-in and password info for our site. So, to save yourself the hassle come early September, change your password now to something you can remember or write down. To make things even easier and more secure, make sure your new password is at least 8 characters long, and includes a number.

Will I use the same username and password?

When the changes on September 19th roll around, you may need to update your password to one that’s a little more secure if our new system thinks it’s a little wishy-washy. And if you already have a Monster account that’s configured to your liking, you will want to make sure you’re using the same email address for both Monster and Excelle. In any event, our website will help you through the first log-in process on 9/19.

What do I get out of this change?

This is nothing but good for you. Here are a handful of reasons:

Your job searches will access hundreds of thousands of Monster.com job postings.

You can easily access your job search info, resume, and account information for both Monster and Excelle with one log-in and password.

You can easily access Excelle from your my.monster.com page.

This is not good.  Changing Lifestyles and I were just starting to get the hang of giving references.  After I gave her one, she suggested that we use Womanco as our employer, and and our job titles (or relationships) as "Career Networking Member."

You may laugh at what I am going to say, but this is bigger than Monster.  This is a company of women.  Our contributons are what makes up this site . . . it is morphing into something bigger than the creator could ever envision.  I even see it as a platform for change for women sometime in the future.  I am sure it is already bringing positive change in small ways to women already here.

It is where we come . . . something that is uniquely our own.  I for one, regret that the powers that be see the need to change the name.  Yes, there are a few men that pop in, (and Ricki who thinks he is a woman, of course . . . but is only more in touch with his feminine side than the average man . . . lol)  But being from the gender that is not even recognized by the US Constitution as having all of the same rights as men in this society (except maybe to vote) . . . this has been a refreshing oasis in a world run by men.

You see, I put a lot of time into this site (and work a full time job, mind you.)  It is more than pasting gifs on a wall, although I do this .  Just yesterday, I gave advice to a young high school student on where to find money for college.  This morning, I gave my professional opinion on what another woman should do to use her talents to go into business for herself.  In the past, I have researched to give women resources in their own state (via internet ) on where to get that power bill paid when the lights are going off, and she has young children, and no money to stop that disconnection from occurring.

Younger women are leaving facebook to join this site.  I am seeing this more with every passing day.  They want something with substance, and that is what Excelle is . . . the very essence of every woman who frequents this site.

When I post for the first time, I alway leave anonymous tags based on what each woman is doing. (I just recently made the decison to do this anonymously as not to do it for gain for myself.)  No, in most cases, I do not really know the person, but I look at it as a self fulfilling prophecy.  I am a certified career developer by trade, and can immediately identify the positive traits that the woman in each occupation should have.  If each woman is not doing this when I give the tag, it will give her a vision on what she should be doing to excel in her profession.  It gives her a goal, and then she knows what she should be doing (that is, of course, if she doesn't already know.)

"Without a vision, the people perish. "  (Biblical quote here.)

The new name sounds so cold and sterile.  I hate it.

I will most likely leave, as much as I am reluctant to make this decision.  That is, unless I am convinced of this logic otherwise.  I guess the bottom line is money.

Anna . . . please don't let them change the name.

Respectfully submitted,

Carmen

PS - FYI  . . . and no . . . I don't need a site name to validate who I am, but Excelle sounds so sterile.  Yes, the flower is still there, and the site will still be the same, but for once I thought this was somewhere dedicated to OUR gender.  I had a man who sent a message to me last week.  He was elated, and said, "I am finally a part of excelle!!!"  Some of the men who come here (not many, may I add) look at it as a privilege.  I consider this as a compliment to our gender . . .

Excelle is a computer program (spelled wrong of course, lol)

Excelle . . . eh . . . that is a community of knowledgable professionals to stand up and take notice of.  We are here for you, and cheer you on.

Although I am a newbie, I would like to state what I have seen as benefits to this site you don't usually see in many others. As women and people, sometimes, some simply need that nudge, suggestion, or hear voice through others. That is what Excelle is for many on this site. There have been countless ones, in such a short period of time, I have been blessed with giving advice regarding work, career, education, and even help in their personal lives. I have stood in support of the good of Excelle has to offer when, people considering becoming active on the site, asked if it were just a chat site. I have explained, in detail, how to use the site to their advantage. I, sincerely, hope many things will stay as is with enhancements to the model already in place. I am praying it will keep its warmth and never becomes cold. This is a site that can actually bring out so much good and promise in so many. Just keep up the good work!

Blessings,

Maria

Why can't the name be WomenExcelle.monster.com? Then it would still be inviting to women who are finding and enhancing themselves in all you have had to offer. The men will still come, I am sure.It is proven, you have made this a site for all, with something of quality, to contribute.  I am a member of Women's Council and Realtors and some of our most active members are men.

Great Idea, Maria!

Then "women" is still there as an identifier.  That is what attracted me in the beginning (and Tall Anna's welcoming greeting, of course!) =)

I am a woman . . . oh this site is for me and about my concerns!  (That is what grabbed my attention, anyway.)

Pleeeeze Anna . . .

Ask the powers that be if we can keep "women" in the name.

I dunno, I rather like the new name. I don't see anything about how the site is changing from being just about women and our issues, just that the name is changing. But then again, I hate when companies market to me specifically and only as a woman (beauty products putting "Women" or "Lady" in front of a plain old razor or soap, for example).

It seems a little jaded to assume - despite what Anna says in her message - that anything negative is coming out of the name change. If the site has been useful to you under one moniker, why the immediate jump to the worst case scenario? :)

Hey ladies,

I really appreciate your candid feedback. And first of all, let me say how happy I am to hear how much you love Excelle and have invested yourselves in it! I sincerely hope your involvement continues. The site is what it is because of women like you! Keep it up! Keep encouraging others in both their professional and personal endeavors.

The good news is, the things you love about this site are not changing. It's simply a name change. The only thing changing is the name that appears on header. We are still the place for women to congregate, a social network for women (you know, with the men we adore sprinkled in! *waves to ricki*). You can still network to your hearts' desires. You will still have all the opportunities - if not more of them - to mentor and to learn from others.

I'd be incredibly sad to see you leave, and hope you'll reconsider. Regardless of the name, this is a place where women from all walks of life can congregate to talk about their concerns, and support and encourage each other.

Best,

Anna

Women (we are big, we are great and we are honourable) so let us honour our leader by agree with her, encouraging her, supporting her to do what she think is right.

Actually, this name Excelle is a powerful name and attractive name for women to recognise ourself.  So my suggestion is that, if we can make it (ExelleExcellemonster.com) is a suggestion.

Thank you.

I am a new member, joining a few days ago. I chose this site through monster because I am graduating college in 6 months and want to have a career lined up for when I'm done. Engineering is not a common field for a woman to enter, so I thought Excelle would potentially lead me to feedback from some great women who elected to go into engineering also. Excelle does not shout "Professional women"  to me when I read it, but if there is a description below describing that aspect of this site, the name change will be fine.

I have been on Excelle for a little while and have had the great pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful people. Being a member of a site like this makes me proud. I absolutely love it when people ask me about where I seen something or learned something and I tell them, "On my Excelle site, it's an online community for Women."

Normally I wouldn't pay much attention to these types of changes, with other networks I have sat quietly thinking, "No big deal, it's just this or that...." I hope this is ONLY changing a simple name. I do, however, have to ask..........

What is wrong with the name we have?       This is an amazing site with amazing people.

For now, I will wait and see what happens, but it does sadden me to see something so beautifully strong be changed to be more "mainstream", in all honestly I don't like the new name and to me it says cold, impersonal, generic, and common.

It really saddens me to see that SongofJoy has left us already, I am sorry, but I agree with her!!! If my account shall be deleted for my opinion, then so beit, I will then know this wonderful site has indeed been handed to the "dogs".  FYI I am not talking about Anna either.

If I am offending anyone with my opinions I do apologize, but this is how I feel.

Hi Bonnie,

Thank you so much for your candid feedback.

Just wanted to clarify quickly: Carmen (SongofJoy) deleted her account on her own. We'd never delete your account for voicing your opinions! In fact, we reward you with reputation points for speaking up. :) So thank you for that.

Also, as I mentioned before, nothing about this site is changing except for the name. We'll still be your go-to community that's specifically designed for women -- a place for you to connect with,  mentor, and be mentored by other amazing women.

I see it this way: excel keeps our career focus in tact while elle solidifies our femininity. Excelle, to me, seems like a fabulous convergence of the two.

You can still network to your heart's desire. You will still have all the opportunities - if not more of them - to learn from other women.

In any case, thanks again for speaking up. It's great to hear what you all are thinking about this change as we proceed into the transition.

Hello all,

I have finally found a site in which I feel I belong...and you are changing it!  I belong to Monster.com, also, and have nothing good to say about it. Nothing.  Nadda.  I am seriously upset.

I only joined this group within the last month, and have been astounded to find the most incredible, intelligent, awesome women who think the same thoughts I have, somw who have the same twisted sense of fun and humor that I do...and fear we will be sucked up and lost by The Monster!

I know my unhappiness will not change a thing, but at least I have been able to whine for a moment, and possibly nudge you into re-thinking this???

Martie – I’m so sorry you’ve had that sort of experience with Monster, but I want to assure you that nothing about how this site works or what it means to our members (and me!) will be changing for the bad. There are some systems things that are happening with Monster later this month that will make it easier for you to use Monster and this site together, but that’s the extent of the Monsterfication.

That said, I want to address some of the suggestions to keep "Women" in the name. While I love and respect everyone for being so passionate about this place that you’d make those suggestions, the site does have an entire legal process behind changing the name that makes it impossible for us to change it at this point. There are copyrights that have to be verified, length issues, and those sorts of things we had to consider before changing the name.

We love the name Excelle because it spoke to the deepest desire we have for our sisters (and brothers-in-arms, Ricki!) to flourish and succeed. If putting a name to that mission – which hasn’t changed since day one of this site – offends you, or if you really feel like seeing the word "Woman" in the browser bar when you visit the site’s address makes such a big difference that you question the value of what you get here, I am very and truly sorry.

I’d hope that you give us a chance to prove your worst fears wrong, because we’re really excited about making the site an even more amazing community.

Dear Anna,

I will trust you on ths one because I have no choice.  Certainly you have built a website that has become like a warm blanket to some of us, and have done a superb job of knowing what we need, want, and care about.  I haven't even begun to use all the fantastic information I have right in front of me, but what I have used has been delightful.

So, if the bottom line is that this is a name change, and not a change in philosphy or nature, then I will watch and see how it deveops.  I wish you all the luck in the world, Anna; you have done a tremendous job thus far.

Ok, sounds as if Excelle is trying to grow and expand and I can appreciate that.  However, intergrating with Monster.com does not seem the way to go for those of us who are biz owners and looking for ways to build on that.  Monster.com is the place I go to look for a job, not to start or build one.  As I am still trying to build my business, I still need some cash flow and will look to Monster.com and other job boards for part time income.  I am sure you are thinking, what a better way to kill two birds with one stone.  Look for a part time job and network for your business at the same time.  Well, that is just the thing.  I am not comfortable with having my job search profile in the same place as my business profile. I liked the idea of having my business and personal id's seperate and apart.  It may sound silly to you, but that is just how I feel.  Like Excelle I would like to grow and expand as well.  I've met amazing women here on the board who have given me a lot of support and ideas to help me with my Avon business.  I just don't think that being part of a job placement board is the way to go to help me to achieve to those goals.  I guess I will have to wait and see how this is going to go, but I am not sure that it is will benefit me in the way I would like.  With that being said, I will everyone involved with Excelle but success with this new venture and hope that you will have a very smooth transition.

I too have been around since the site was pink and black!

I do not like the new name. Excelle reflects the essence of the site. It is a shame that it has come to this. Big Box in social networking too?

Monster does not need to alter and absorb the entire nature of the site, but I guess it is a sign of the times and the nature of the beast.

So sad to see my favorite social networking site go ~ Au Revoir - Excelle morphs into something new....

Y'all are crazy! Haven't you read Shakespeare - "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet!" I've been around since the site was pink and black and ya know what? It is still the same awesome place it was before. What defines this site? The people on it. So get over a name change cause this site will still be the BEST place to share, learn and connect with each other.

I also think migrating with a larger company will only give Excelle more resources to build better features and expand its reach to more women to empower and enlighten. It also seems to fit in with the Monster core competency of careers.

We have to trust that the people who have seen Excelle grow from DAY 1 know what is going on FAR MORE than any of us do.

Hi everyone,

I'm so happy I was able to read all your opinions. Personally, I dislike the name. Excelle is completely uninviting. Also, what's up with monster putting their name on the URL? When it was womenco.com, it was still part of monster but it wasn't so "in your face." You were able to type, "www.womenco.com" and the site came up.

I also am part of the Monster community and honestly I don't have anything good to say about them either. Horrible company. Anna, I know you said nothing about how this site works will be changing for the bad. However, if I am forced to use Monster in some way, I consider that bad.

Anna,

Were you ever going to announce the changes in the TOS?

Three days ago, Wade's seeking people to join his MLM program was against the TOS. Not anymore.

But what I have real problems with is this:

Excelle changed its terms without notification.

I am bothered by two things. First this:

By posting messages, creating or modifying a home page, chatting, uploading files, inputting data, transmitting e-mail, or engaging in any other form of communication (individually or collectively "Communications") to or through the Excelle Web site, you hereby grant to Excelle a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, unrestricted, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, copy, license, sublicense, adapt, distribute, display, publicly perform, reproduce, transmit, modify, edit and otherwise exploit such Communications throughout the world, in all media now known or hereafter developed. You hereby waive all rights to any claim against Excelle for any alleged or actual infringements of any proprietary rights, rights of privacy and publicity, moral rights, and rights of attribution in connection with such Communications.

I beg your pardon, does your TOS not say that my PRIVATE EMAILS may be broadcast globally!!!! Are you willing to have your private email read globally? Are you prepared to surrender to Excelle all rights to your intellectual property? I'm not. And I have copyrighted ever yone of my comments, posts, tags, and emails (it help to have your own literary agent). I do not surrentder to excelle any of my intellectual property rights.

Then there is this gem:

Excelle may immediately, without prior notice, issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend, or terminate your use of and access to the Site, at our sole discretion, for any reason, whether with or without cause or warning, and without liability. Your sole remedy against Excelle in the event of a dispute arising out of this Agreement, the Site or your use thereof, is to terminate this Agreement by ceasing your use of the Site. In the event of termination of this Agreement, Excelle may delete and/or store, in its discretion, data associated with your use of the Site. Excelle may also change, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Excelle Web site at any time, including the availability of any Web site feature, database, or content.

Sorry, but I find it very odd indeed that group that is theoretically meant to empower women is run as though it was a dictatorship. No set rules, just the wim of whoever.

And, surprise, for anything which pre-dates the name change, you have neither the right to store information about me and my only recourse is NOT to cease and desist. And I'll put my guys at Georgretown's Center for Cyberlaw up against your corporate lawyer any day.

You're right it isn't scary. It smacks of fascism and it disgust me.

I'm deleting and gone.

Johannah,

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way.

The only recent change to our TOS was including the name Excelle and taking out mentions of WomenCo. The issues you quote above have been included in this site's TOS since its inception, and are standard for most -- if not all -- social networking communities (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, etc.).

If you had had a problem with these terms previously, I would have greatly appreciated a private message so that we could have taken care of your concerns in a non-confrontatoinal manner.

I know that both the community and I would be extremely sorry to lose you as a member, especially since we take pride in being the kind of community that can talk things out if at all possible. I hope you reconsider, but if not, wish you the best in your future endeavors.

I don't know how anyone, in good conscience, could take anything I have written and reproduce it elsewhere.  Are we asked permisssion?  Can we say no?  Do I have to weigh EVERY word I say in any of my topics or conversations with other members?  I find this so disconcerting that, unless you can appease me, I will be signing out of Excelle.  It's not worth the worry to me.  I don't want the public to know if I have health issues, I don't want the public to know about things I've written to others about trials with my teenagers, I don't want anyone but those to whom I write to have knowledge of my personal life!  I'm getting more worked up by the moment, so I'll log off now.

Anna, what would cause you to delete an account? Excelle's Terms are very odd on this subject:

That reads to me as though you can delete any account at any time without cause or reason and that the member's only recourse is to leave the site. Legally, that is simply not so.

Eating Humble Pie: humiliation by admitting wrongness or having been proven wrong after taking a strong position.

Well, I am publically admitting that I cut my nose off to spite my face.

Change?

No, It doesn't have to be scary.

I tell you what is scary . . .

leaving Womenco=Excelle, and then not finding a site for women on the world wide web that is so wonderful, so informative, and so made for me.

losing all my friends that I have formed such meaningful relationships with.

I thought I could take a stand for women everywhere (just like Marian Anderson standing up there singing when so much was going against her) and get some major results. I just wish we could have voted on it, but guess that was not in the cards.

Anyway, I am back . . . a little older, a little wiser. Look at the dark circles under my eyes. It is from not getting my "friend fix." (I must see Miss Mary Kay about this.)  My hair is wild and unruly, and I am not eating so well either. Did you not see someone pressing her nose again the window . . . wishing she could come in and respond to some of the forums? That was me . . . SongofJoy57 . . .AKA "Rebel without a Clue." See all of my contributions and photos with "Account Deleted" below it? Well, I did that to myself . . .

Remind me not to do that again . . . you know. . . play Gloria Steinem of the internet . . .

or at least to not go off ranting and raving like Scarlett O'Hara: "As God be my witness, I will never darken the threshold of Excelle.com!"

Cause I may have to come back with my tail tucked between my legs asking for forgiveness.

I have learned to choose my battles wisely.

I apologize to all my friends.

Tall Anna: I am sorry if I caused you any grief.

Love,

EatingHumblePie

Martie,

When you joined this site (which has always been in the monster family), you had to click on box to indicate you and accepted the terms and privacy policy.

If you do not want to risk exposing your life to the world, this is not the best place for you to be.

This is from the privacy policy:

We also gather or may gather certain information about your use of the Monster Sites such as what areas you visit and what services you access. Moreover, there is information about your computer hardware and software that is or may be collected by us. This information can include without limitation your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses, but is not linked to your personal information.

Like everyone with wifi or dsl (70% of all net users) I have a stable node. That means my IP address is unique to me. How can that be construed as not being linked to my personal information?

I think you need to re-read the terms and privacy policy. Monster provides information about us to other companiies: there is a disclaimer in the privacy policy to the effect that monster (or monster dba any of its 5 different sites) cannot and will not attest to these other sites' use of the information excelle phishes.

Anna can't change or fix the terms or privacy policy. Her employer, Monster can but as it make money selling and using our info, there is no incentive for Monster to do so. and monster is indeed a beast.

I am sort of new to this site and am still trying to figure out how to navigate it.  A name change is what most sites are all about.  I guess they just want to see if we are paying attention.  I only wish you (Excelle) would give better information on how to invite friends, I was asked by four people to be on their friend list, when I first signed up, but I can't find out how to invite new people to be on MY friend list.  The name change looks like a good one to me.
