Posted 2 months ago I'm starting a new business and I've almost completed my business plan. However, before applying for a business loan, I was hoping to try to apply for a grant. I am an African American woman and Navy veteran. There should be something out there. |

| Posted 2 months ago Congratulations on the effort you are putting out there. There are thousands of grants available if you know where to look. The college I attend has a collection of books on available grants. A new publication comes out each year. They are organized by the type of grant/scholarship and give the specifics on what the grant requires. I recomend taking an afternoon to go to your local library and ask the librarian about it. I don't remeber off the top of my head what the name is of these books, but I am sure they can help you locate them in thier reference section. |

New businesses and individuals often inquire about grant availability. While there are some grants out there, most individuals and start-up businesses will find it difficult to get funded through a grant. However, there are sources that may be of assistance. First, the reference librarian can assist you to find information on foundations and corporations in your area that seek to support women-owned, African-American, and/or military veteran businesses. You can also check out sources such as Foundation Center’s online information for individuals foundationcenter.org/getstarted/individuals/ You can also sign up for email notices on RFP’s (requests for proposals) through various sources. There are also great entrepreneur sites such as EntreWorld which is through the Kaufmann Foundation. entrepreneurship.org In addition, you will need to follow the RFP’s to the letter. This is where you may seek to work with a grant writer or grant reviewer.
