I am looking for all those "crafty, creative" woem out there who can make the holidays happen with a rediculously small budget.   I know that you are out there..  Looking for creative inexpensive ideas for gifts, gift wrapping, entertaining.

Where is the creative ingenuity that broguht this country into being?

There has to be scrap bookers,,candlemakers, yarn specialist, quilters, garment makers, photographers, cooks  out there with some ideas, can't we brainstorm and help each other out?

I refuse to allow the current economic downturn to spoil my celebrations.  Those who lived through the depression found a way and so can we..WE HAVE TO PULL TOGETHER   COME ON BRAINSTORM!

I don't do things ridiculously on the cheap (I wish I could) - but I try to be smart with my money and gifts.

I am already starting some of my holiday baking. I am either making cookie dough now and freezing, or I am baking the cookies then freezing. I am in a cookie exchange so I have different things to bring to parties- and I don't have all the extra baking. This weekend I am going to an apple orchard- so I will buy some apples, peel, core and slice them right away. Then either make a pie and freeze, or freeze the apples in a ziploc bag to be used however later on.  I guess those are more of a time saver than a money saver- but hey, whatever tips we can spread around.

I have also learned how to make canned items this year. I have made 2 batches of jam, spaghetti sauce, and peaches. The peaches didn't really turn out so I will be keeping them- I let them boil so they kind of fell apart when I spooned them into their jars- oops.

From the library, I have checked out a book on how to make layered mixes as gifts. All the dry ingredients for soup, brownies, cookies, etc. layered in a glass mason jar- then decorated with fabric or ribbon to look pretty.

As for trying to save a little on gifts, I have always bought gifts for the children of my close cousins. 9 all together between 3 families. I have decided that this year I am going to give each family a gift- board games, video games, books, DVD rental certificates, yard games. Things they can do together but I am also saving by not buying individual gifts.

Been out of work for almost a year so money is almost non existent.  I am sewing some corduroy rompers for my great niece, some  fleece throws and a few caftans. I have done some gift baskets in the past.  A friend with children so her basket contained garden seeds ( she kept a garden to help feed the family) , nutri grain and cereal bars, dry soup mixes  she said it got her family through the rough spots in the winter and the garden provided for them in the summer and fall.  But there are young men to consider and I'm not sure what to do for them.  My sister in law received a scrapbook of her life from her  younger sister one year and loved it.

I am a fan of scrapbooks, picture frames with fantastic pictures. I also love to create my own gift baskets with things I know each kid will like. Last year I gave my sister, who has 7 kids a movie gift basket. I picked out 2 movies they would ALL like, added some popcorn for the microwave, 3D glasses, and various candies. Wrapped it up and called it a day. Bought all the gift wrapping basket stuff at the dollar store. My basket looked like it cost $60 but minus the movies it cost $5.

I am a fan of boardgames, movie tickets or things that the whole family can enjoy. Now is the time to be creative. Do they like to read ? Maybe make a big comfy pillow or seat (easy to do) and buy them some books they like or gift card to bookstore. Time to get creative.

When I was supervising, I held a contest between the crews on my machines.  There were three gift baskets, one had board games, boxes of JuJu Beans, Hot Tamales, Ike & Mike and a few others, and 2-2 liter bottles of soda, one had a  1 year Bible, Strongs concordance, two Bible games , juice boxes and snacks, the last one was like yours a movie basket with goodies.  They were awarded to the top three scores for remembering their Safety & Service talks for a quarter (I even had Union cooperation). I had to laugh the top two had to do a bonus question because both wanted the Bible basket.  I enjoy making gift baskets.  I was trying to locate a picture of a lifelong friend of mine that I took at her first wedding.  It's a picture of her mother, her grandmother, her great grandmother and her.  I wanted to do a shadow box with the picture, some lace, loose silk flowers, maybe a string of costume pearls.  I'll keep looking.  I need to start gathering.  I have a couple of readers, need to make a list.  Thank you!!!!!!!

I love homemade items, giftcards, gift baskets.  Sometimes the best gifts are not tagible.   Arrange a get together, a day trip a picnic in a favortie spot.  I know the library here in AZ has what is called a culture pass. You can check out passes to certain AZ places such as the Zoo , museums, and Botanical Garden.  The pass admits 4 people in for FREE!!!  All you need is a library card!!!

Our library system has a similar program. Ours is called the Museum Adventure Pass. And with ours, you only get 2 free admissions... but with another library card, you can get 2 more admissions. There are all sorts of places on the freebie list- historical sites, cultural and heritage museums, art museums, arboretum and gardens, science museums, the childrens museum. Sponsored by Macy's stores. It really is a fantastic program- I have taken advantage of it several times. Thank you library system, and thank you Macy's.
