Posted 28 days ago Last week, airline pilots of a major airlines seemed to have lost communications with air traffic controllers. The pilots over shot the runway by over 150 miles. The radio kept talking to them, yet, they didn't hear them. The pilots have said they were busy on a laptop as if that is to make us feel more comfortable. First, do you believe them? Secondly, how does this make you feel? Thank God they were not the pilots flying the plane that landed successfully in the Hudson! |

Posted 28 days ago As someone that lives in Minneapolis, the fact that they were out of radio contact for about an hour and a half.. AND FLEW OVER MY CITY while remaining out of radio contact WITHOUT the fighter jets being dispatched is what has me most concerned with this story. And that is something that is not being reported on.. its all about the pilots and their flimsy excuses. With all the shakeup between the Delta and Northwest merger.. their original excuse of having a discussion about airline policy and lost track of where they were is somewhat understandable- but I wasn't believing that one. I also don't buy their latest story that they were on their laptops.. and did not hear the repeated calls from Denver and Minneapolis air traffic controls, or that they did not hear the message/ printer thing going off.. from what I understand, its like a dot matrix printer that is between both pilots. So, whichever story they are going with.. their actions are inexcusable and they should be fired. However, I cannot understand how in the days after 9/11 a plane with 150 passengers can be out of radio contact from somewhere over Kansas to Wisconsin without fighter jets in the air. Not much longer and they would have been in Canada. Two different groups were on standby, but neither team were dispatched... HUH??? How long do they need to be out of contact before jets go in the air?? Someone needs to address that issue- not sure who makes the call.. air traffic control, FAA, NTSB? Someone needs to answer why neither team of fighter jets were sent into the air to see what was happening.

Posted 28 days ago It is shocking! It will be interesting to see what disciplinary action is taken.

Posted 27 days ago Well the news out yesterday afternoon was that the FAA revoked their pilots licenses. They have yet to be fired from Delta/ NWA but I am sure that it's just a matter of time. And I also heard yesterday that at the same time these pilots were incommunacado, there was another Delta pilot that landed his Boing 767, carrying 195 passengers, on one of the taxiways at the Atlanta airport, not the runway. Taxiways are much much narrower, usually shorter, and obviously not designed to handle a jet landing. What is with these pilots? Have they all forgotten their training? Is it time for Delta to run a "Back to Basics" type refresher course at headquarters?

Posted 27 days ago Surely, they have some sort of mandatory continuing education class they must take each year or two. In fact, I remember the pilot named Sulley saying how he had to attend a mandatory refresher course not because of what happened to the flight on the Hudson, but because it is mandatory for them to take these courses in order for their licenses to remain current. I don't know what it is called. Perhaps, someone on this site knows and will inform us.
