Posted 23 days ago Hi all, I am a grad student in a Forensic Psychology program, about to go into my second year of classes. I live in the Jacksonville, FL, area, and I am thinking about moving to the Orlando, FL, area. I was informed by my advisor that I needed to start researching practicum sites so that I can apply for my practicum to begin next fall. The problem is, I'm not sure where to start. My advisor told me to start with the criminal justice system, since that is where I will mostly be for my career in forensic psychology, but she also said that it depends on what I want to do in the field of forensic psychology. This is where I have the biggest problem: I don't know what I want to do! It's very confusing to me, since I don't even know where to begin on brain storming. I only just started researching where I might be able to find a practicum. I was thinking about writing to the office of the public defender, the clerk of court, the judicial district office, as well as all of the correctional centers nearby and where I want to be. But, does anyone have any advice as to what I should say? I feel like my letter will still feel like a letter written by a high school student as opposed to a grad school student. I think my biggest concern is trying to pinpoint some good locations to at least start with, or maybe even someone who could offer me some guidance. Is there anyone out there who has been in my same situation? Are there any forensic psychologists out there, maybe, who could give me tips on how they began their career? |
