Should I accept the job offer?

Posted 17 days ago I have been unemployed since May 2009 and have been actively seeking a lab technician position for the past 6 months. Recently, I was offered a job and I am thinking about accepting this position. The position is entry – level, no laboratory experience at $15/hour. I have a Master degree with 2 years of industry experience. My previous position paid $20/hour as a laboratory technician. Although I am happy I have a potential job, I feel I am moving backwards in wages and in meeting my career goals. Overall, I am more disappointed in the level of the position rather than the pay. Should I take this position or continue to search for a position that will guarantee laboratory exposure? Please Help !!! |

| Posted 17 days ago I think you sometimes need to take a step back before you can move forward. I did that a few years ago myself, and while it was a huge hit to my bottom line, in the end the experience really helped me land my next gig. If you can make it work, and there is room for growth with this new company, take it! |

| Posted 17 days ago I agree about taking a step back. As long as there's room for growth. Also, will you be learning anything new? If so, go for it. A lot of people are having to take a step back right now (thanks to the economy), so I don't think it will be a problem when you go on to the next role if you're able to explain your reasons. You may find that this job leads to something better than your previous one. |

| Posted 17 days ago I agree with the 2 previous posters... sometimes we have to take a step backward in order to move ahead. Maybe this position will just be a "foot in the door"! If I were in your shoes, I would take it. Consider the fact that you have been unemployed since 2000, go out there and show them what you are made of... and who knows maybe this position will lead to bigger and better things. I wish you all the luck!
