At first, its sole purpose was to keep me distracted on the bus ride home. Then I realized there's more to it than Angry Birds and Facebook - a variety if handy apps prove incredibly useful in daily life.

From finding recipes in the grocery store aisle to tailoring a fitness plan, these lifesavers are doing the legwork for me by keeping me organized and helping me anticipate, plan and accomplish my goals.

Whether you're a busy mom, a fitness guru, or a top exec, there's an app to help streamline your life.

So which apps help you better manage your day? Stay on top of your diet? Keep the kids entertained? Or are just plain fun?

Since I can't cook worth a fig, I really appreciate Urban Spoon. You shake your iPhone and the slot machine will pick a restaurant nearby for you using GPS technology. It's brilliant.

The Women's Health app comes in handy the next day when I attempt to burn off the calories I consumed the night before.

Ok, I'm a sucker for the Facebook app. I've got at least 13 Words with Friends games going at any given time. BUT I can be practical, too. For example, the Cocktails + app lists over 2,000 contemporary and classic mixed drink recipes with ingredient description and substitution info and the WebMD app cures (or encourages?) my hypochondriacal tendencies.

I love my iPhone, too.  For fitness, there are Weight Watchers and Nike + GPS.  For cooking, I'd be lost without Allrecipes Dinner Spinner Pro, it allows me to save trees and make delicious food.  Pandora gives me new music while I exercise.  Yelp guides me to good restaurants near me.  There are so many good apps and more every day!

Epicurious is glorious for all you foodies. My boyfriend likes the period tracker. Can't say I mind him staying away. :)

You got an APP for "Get me a JOB NOW"!!! Other than that I have no use for such frivolities. I feel for you all who can not handle the everyday mundane things in life, like knowing how to prepare a meal or how to stop shoving food in your face till you get so fat your clothes don't fit. Take a sewing class for Gods Sake already and do something for someone that doesn't cost them a dime, ask nothing in return. Doesn't any one know how to do anything anymore without a phone shoved in your face? I am sick to death of all this stuff designed to distract real meaningful interaction.

People, sheesh.

I love Words With Friends. It's my go-to on the bus ride home. And I think it makes me smarter. Or at least that's my excuse for playing games when I should be reading a book. :)

Yes, I LOVE my iPhone too! Too many great apps to name, but I would be lost without my Password Wallet app. I keep ALL of my personal apps locked within this app, and the only password I have to remember is the one to get into the app. My iPhone needs a little repair, but I wouldn't even send it away, in large part because of this app!

I have a blackberry and I absolutely love it. I am rather obsessed with it at this time. I have been using it for everything. I depend on it like nothing else. I have it with me at ALL times. I have my personal email attached to my blackberry. Now I can always access both my blackberry and my personal email with me where ever I am.
