I don't know about you...but does it irk you to watch that show on TV (the one with the lie detector that gets you to admit awful truths for cash while your parents, co-workers, spouses sit on and watch)  It seems to create such negative stuff for everyone...the contestents, the family/coworkers...ME watching it...I feel so icky after I watch...anyone else?

I refuse to watch that one.  I flipped through one night and caught part of it and it just made me sick that people are that desperate for money that they would go on a show and humiliate themselves like that.  And I'm a Reality TV junkie!!

I pass on most reality shows because they don't seem real but scripted.

How about the most unhealthy show in the history of television: To Catch A Predator.

And I thought we were bad over here with Big Brother!  It is a really sick show, and is usually getting into trouble.  I refuse to watch it.  I don't even have a television anymore.  Did any of you ever see the Osborne Show??  Sharon Osborne and all of her family had the cameras in to watch their personal lives at home 24-hours a day.  I was really embarrassed when I was living in Sweden.  People were watching that on television and then coming to me to ask me if we Brits really lived like that!  It was humiliating.

Most of that, if not all is staged though too.  The lie detector one I think is probably fake.  Ex:  My boyfriend does acting and modeling, and his agent sent him to audition for the Bachelor a couple of years ago.  Some aspects of that show migh be real, but in general, no.  I think the Bachelorette show ends up being more authentic, because the girls really want to meet someone.  The Bachelors are phony.

I think when we stop realizing the shows are put there to entertain us then there is a problem.  Also to characterize everyone by how one person acts on tv is not right.  Like the Ozzy show, it never crossed my mind that all from the UK would act this way.  Big Brother is edited to look one way or another.  I know this from watching the live feeds and then the show.  People would say oh I so like that girl or hate this one and I'd tell them what they did that wasn't put on tv.  Boy their minds changed when they found out how it was edited.  I enjoy the entertainment aspect of seeing how people from different cultures get along or don't get along.  Season one from Big Brother showed a gay man and a homophobic man who talked for hours and ended up being friends in the end.  The live feeds showed their conversations and boy did they have some good ones.   That's the stuff I like watching.  That and the competitions on Survivor.  Man to get paid to come up with those competitions.  Some are so cool that it's not funny.

I too love the shows that create some type of better understanding of people ....If it helps us all get along better and understand that people are simply different from one anther (versus being wrong or right) I am alllll for  it!

I too share your concern, when I first watched it my response was, "What's next" . Are we going to sell our souls.

I think it's trash. It's the worst show ever. Who would want to go on a show and want to hurt the people they love? It's a sickness.

I used to watch Survivor when it first came on but I haven't seen it in a long while. The last reality show I watched was American Idol and  that's gotten pretty stale...
